Solid product - runs more loudly than anticipated

Our new Maytag side by side looks great. Has great storage capacity, the ice and water features are great. Two things kept this from getting higher stars - 1) the ice maker bypasses the installed filter and more importantly 2) the condenser and fan run almost constantly. We know they are more energy efficient, but we have noise sensitive family members and the condenser and fan are not as quiet as we hoped.

Major failure after 18 months

Purchased this refer 18 months ago. The icemaker is poorly designed - if you want ice you have to carefully avoid the water button or you have water all over the floor. The dispenser is also nowhere near large enough for today's normal cups. More importantly, the compressor 6 months out of warranty, and the part is on national backorder, so we are here at Thanksgiving with no refrigerator.

I have had fridge for few weeks. Previously owned a maytag wide by side for 25 yr and it was the best not one issue! The new one was a little overpriced in my opinion but hoping for another 25 so bit the bullet. First two days it was noisy and not what I hoped. I re organized the freezer three times before I found something that made it stop buzzing. Note my fridge and freezer are always below 50 percent full. The build seems weaker but time will tell just hope it's reliable.

installed 10/1, noise generated to chill the fridge/freezer is, louder than any fridge I've ever owned or heard at a friend's. Service call concluded "within manufacturing tolerance". Retailer said " If you were to replace it with another Maytag/ Whirlpool/ or KitchenAid there would be no difference from the current one you put in the home." That means all Maytag systems fridges are this loud?! Followed by: "Fridges don't have a sound rating and aren't measured that way because they have a constant function to serve. That being said I believe we would run into this no matter the model by Maytag." If true, in ready to eat the $2000 and buy a different brand.

I bought this Maytag Fridge because my last Fridge was a Maytag also which I had for over 10 years with no major problems. But, this new one I have now in nothing a pain in my neck....Everytime you want to get ice, you have to clean up the floor from ice chips. And every time you want a glass of water, you have to wipe up the water mess in the tray and off the floor. Also, this unit makes a loud hum when it is running...you can hear it thruout the house! I would not recommend this fridge to anyone!! I am a retired Electronic Specialist and I would like to hear from a Real Maytag specialist who could talk to me about this problem!! Thanks

I have had the fridge a little over a week. Repairman coming today. Icemaker will only dispense and crush about half the time. I have to open the door and readjust the bucket. The unit runs all the time. I will ask about that today. According to what I read, they are only supposed to run 30-80% of the time. Not too happy. Looks nice though. Wish I would have gotten my old fridge repaired.

The only thing I have a problem with is the water and ice. The way it is positioned when you want ice it™€™s too easy to hit the water that set up needs to be different. You have to have a certain size cup, which a small glass works better. I don™€™t use small glasses when I get a glass of ice water. And my husband does not like the fact to change the filter it™€™s at the bottom of the refrigerator!

I have had problems with this refrigerator since purchasing it. I had repair people come out twice to service the ice maker that stopped working when it was determined that it froze up. I eventually had to have the whole freezer door replaced because the defroster was inside the door and no accessible. Also the compressor went out and had to be replaced and we were without a refrigerator for about 10 days waiting for the parts. I have purchased an extended warranty when the ice maker went out, but it is like renting the refrigerator that I purchased. Not a fan of this product.

Mixed Review - Some great, some strange

This product replaced a nearly identical fridge that I had for 20 years. For the most part I like this fridge particularly the icemaker/water dispenser/freezer design which, like my old fridge, preserves the top (eye level) shelves in the freezer. A few things are different and a bit strange. The fixed height shelves in the fridge are at an odd height, so much so that we leave one shelf out. The fridge also seems to run unusually often, or at least I can hear more than my old one so I notice it more. It isn't loud, just noticeable.

Looks nice but needs improving with water and ice

I like the look of this side by side fingerprint resistant refrigerator. The problems I've noticed after using for almost 6 months are: the water dispenser will drip twice after use (user is already gone after delayed drip so it runs down the front of door causing what appears to be rust spots) currently keeps sponge there that catches the drips but looks terrible; and ice maker bar that prompts machine when ice is low to make more ice gets what appears to be an accumulation of water drips that turn into an ice clump that freezes the bar in the position that indicates ice is full so no ice is produced - this is a relatively easy fix by scraping off but very annoying.

This refrigerator runs very loudly and it runs a lot. It is very noisy compared to my old one. The top shelf in the freezer is awkward. I guess it is a good concept, however, the fit is not good and it doesn't lay flat when it is down.

Ice maker does not work

We are so disappointed by this unit. The ice maker stopped working after a couple of years. The service technician said this is a common problem with these units. SO disappointing! I have had Maytag appliances my entire life, 67 years (also because my parents had them!), but this is the unhappiest I have ever been with a Maytag. Ice is a vital part of my daily living and to have to buy ice is ridiculous when you have an ice maker. I have had an ice maker in my refrigerator/freezer since I was a young girl. They have always worked without fail. This is not new technology.Shame on your company to no longer make reliable appliances!

It looks nice and works well for what I need it to. My kids have cracked some of the drawers and such but I'm wanting to get those replaced. The only problem is the ice maker line freezes up periodically so it doesn't work all the time.

It took three different (3) deliveries for an acceptable refrigerator/freezer to come into our home. Most of the unacceptable items had issues with the doors being uneven or unable to close properly. Maytag was great in sending new appliances, but of course, the time delay was frustrating. I originally purchased a warranty for my new refrigerator/freezer and on the third delivery, I was informed that the "warranty" I purchased was no longer available, so I had to order a new warranty at a higher price and was refunded for the lower priced warranty. What other option does anyone have if a warranty is wanted (based on customer comments??? Upon arrival of my third delivery, I was washing the bins and shelfs and one of the shelves just EXPLOADED everywhere!! Boy, what a mess! I'm still in the process of cleaning everything inside and out and really hope that another shelf doesn't explode, I contacted C.S. to replace the exploded shelf and they were fabulous! I'm just now waiting for the delivery of the shelf which should be approximately 10-business days. My previous Maytag refrigerator/freezer was a "Wide by Side" prior to this purchase. I still LOVE my Wide by Side better than this side-by-side, but this side-by-side had a butter cover where most refrigerators do not. Between the two different models, the new side-by-side doesn't have enough shelfs or enough door shelves/compartments. In addition, one of the door compartment shelves needs to be brought down just one more "click", but the Maytag design doesn't offer any other adjustment for this specific shelf. Haven't had an opportunity to actually try this appliance, but I have high hopes!

Great refigerator if only quieter!!!

i bought this a few weeks ago and after it was delivered noticed a loud humming noise. it immediately stops when you open either door and starts up again when the door is closed. we have contacted maytag.whirlpool and they will not send a technician out as they say the loud noise is normal. i am 80 and my wife is 74, we raised six kids who are now married with their own kids. EVERYONE AGREES that the noise is loud and not normal.

Fair Appliance, Not Very Good

There are several reasons why I am not completely satisfied with this appliance. 1) There is a constant, annoying "hum" that only stops when the freezer or refrigerator door is opened. 2) The drawers do not glide smoothly and I feel they will eventually crack or break. 3) The ice bin develops a lot of frost under it and needs emptying/rinsing every few weeks. 4) The bottom freezer door hinge is exposed making it unsightly. The white roller really stands out on a black appliance. It is concealed below the refrigerator door.

Way too loud

I received my refrigerator today and like it for the most part but it is loud. There™€™s a constant humming noise. I can hear the refrigerator over my tv, it™€™s pretty annoying.

Ice dispenser faulty

The ice dispenser had obvious faults from the beginning. Ice gets stuck in the shaft, melts and drips down the front of the refrigerator throughout the day if you™€™re not aware of this. I read reviews and knew this would happen but decided we could live with it by being careful when we use it. 2 years into owning the fridge, the ice maker stopped working altogether. It makes sounds like it™€™s going through the process, but no ice is ever made. It magically started to work again one day and worked for a few more months, now we™€™re back to no ice. We use a lot of ice so this was a major part of why we purchased this style. We live in a small town with one repairman who stays super busy, so we have been unable to even repair it. Major inconvenience for something that™€™s basically brand new and supposed to last 20 years. I have other Maytag appliances in my home, including a brand new washer that needed a new motor after 6 months of usage. I™€™m afraid the Maytag brand our grandparents swore by is no longer as reputable as in the ™€œgood old days™€. I will not purchase any other Maytag products in the future.

We love the water and ice features. Everything is working well. It™€™s super easy to change the water filter. The only down side is controlling the freezer and frigerator on the front touch pad,™€¦.. it™€™s to easy to inadvertently change the setting without even realizing it.

Design flaws

I like the look of this fridge. The cafe bars make it look high end. The shelves and drawers seem to be of good quality and are still holding up after two years of regular use. The ice and water dispenser has a design flaw that causes ice cubes to get trapped in the shaft and slowly melt out into the floor which is a major pain. If you know the quirk and try to make sure the shaft is clear when you™€™re finished it™€™s not as big of a problem but if you have visitors count on it happening every time. As I write this review, the ice dispenser on my fridge is actually out of order. Ironic I would receive the email to review the product at this time. Ice and water are something we use every single day, multiple times per day. This malfunction has really changed my opinion about Maytag products. We bought a washer around the same time and six months in, the MOTOR went out. Just not the same quality products we™€™ve heard our grandparents talk about. I will never purchase another Maytag product.

So far, I have had no issues with our Maytag refrigerator. I love the ice maker in the door, it frees up so much shelf room. Upon occasion the ice maker freezes up, but not much of an issue.
